Frequently Asked Questions
About Journey Well Counseling
Below you’ll find answers to some of the more common questions I’ve received. If you didn’t find the answer you were looking for, feel free to contact me for more information. I’m always happy to help and answer questions.
What kind of counseling do you offer?
I offer traditional talk therapy (psychotherapy). Traditional talk therapy is provided with the intent of talking through a Client's concerns, decreasing negative symptoms/behaviors and improving a Client's overall wellbeing. I also provide faith based psychotherapy with the intent of a holistic approach (i.e. discussion and support for a Client's spiritual wellbeing).
Do you provide in person or online counseling?
I provide both at this time. I am giving clients the option of having their session online or in person. I continue to adhere to all CDC recommendations for regularly cleaning/sanitizing my office.
Is online counseling right for me?
Online counseling (teletherapy) is very effective, convenient and can keep us safe from illness (COVID-19). Even though it is convenient, teletherapy is not for everyone. Teletherapy is best for Client's with mild to moderate symptoms (not Client's with suicidal ideations or who are in crisis), are comfortable with technology and have a private, quite space to talk.
What happens in the first session?
The first session is a time for you to share your story (your reason for seeking counseling), discuss your goals and talk about what changes you would like to make. This is also a good time to determine if I am a good fit for you. I encourage lots of questions as it is my goal for you to know me and my approach to therapy. I will also have questions for you in the hope to understand you and know you better.
How much do you charge?
Cost per session: $90 - $120
I do offer a reduced rate and am happy to discuss this before our session.
Consultation and Trainings: First consultation is free! Please contact me for more information on pricing for additional consultations and trainings.

AllOne Health EAP Network
First Sun EAP
Blue Cross Blue Shield of SC

I can provide you with a Superbill to give to your insurance company for reimbursement.
Please continue to check back as this information will be updated regularly.
Are there benefits to NOT using health insurance?
You have the choice not to use insurance for privacy reasons. During treatment, insurance companies will need a mental health diagnosis to establish "medical necessity." Some Clients choose not to file with their insurance company to eliminate this "paper trail," especially if they are applying for life insurance, disability insurance or health insurance.
Do you prescribe medication?
No, I do not prescribe medication. Only a provider with a medical degree can prescribe medications. I will be happy to discuss information about medications and help you get connected to a physician for more specialized care in this area.
What is your cancellation policy?
I ask that if you need to cancel, please do so at least 24 hours before your appointment. All appointments that are no shows or can not cancel/reschedule in time, will be charged for the full scheduled session. Of course, I absolutely understand if there is an emergency. We can certainly discuss this if the issues arises.
Who do you NOT see?
I work with a variety of issues that Clients might bring and encourage you to contact me if you don't see your need for therapy on my "Services" page. I don't typically see Clients who have active addictions or active eating disorders due to the specialized training and care that is required. I practice within my scope of practice. I will do my best to refer you to the appropriate resource and/or referral if I am unable to see you.
